5 Amazing Remedies For Persistent Cough

Cough is a disease that mostly occurs during climate change. Though, having a cough is not all that bad because it plays a significant role in clearing infection and irritants from the body. However, having a persistent cough could be so annoying. The underlying causes will determine the best treatment for the cough. Honey is very effective in treating cough. It is also a good remedy for cough and sore throat because it is rich in antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, both of which are good in treating the infections in the throat.

As soon as you start feeling the cough, mix 2 teaspoons of honey with warm water and lemon. Take it once or twice a day for effective results. The honey will soothe your throat, while the lemon will help with congestion. They are good remedies for cough. It should not be given to children below one year of age.

If the cough persists for more than a few days it is important to consult your doctor.

2. Fenugreek Seed

Fenugreek seeds are very good medicine for cough. Taking fenugreek eases congestion when mashed into a tea. taking water that the seeds have been soaked in can dissolve mucus in your lungs and throat.

To use fenugreek seeds for cough, boil 5 teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in one glass of water. Boil the water until it becomes half. Remove the seeds when it’s done and drink the fenugreek water. Take it twice daily for better outcomes.

3. Ginger- Remedies For Cough

Effective use of ginger can ease a dry cough. Ginger helps in reducing nausea and pain. Ginger contains anti-inflammatory properties. These properties in ginger relax the membrane in the airways, which helps in reducing coughing.

To use this:
Add 1 glass of water in a pan with a pinch of black pepper powder. Add some pieces of ginger to the water and boil for like 20 minutes. Sieve the ginger tea to remove the particles in it and drink it hot. You can add lemon or ginger to increase the taste, and with lemon, it can further soothe the cough. Take it twice daily. It can cure all types of cough in a few days.

Take note that ginger tea can cause stomach upset or heartburn in some cases. See your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms.

4. Peppermint

Peppermint leaves contain healing properties that are good for cough. It has menthol, which helps to get rid of the mucus that may irritate the throat. This relieves pain and reduces the tendency to cough more frequently. It also helps reduce congestion and breaks up phlegm in the throat

There are different ways to take peppermint. You can take peppermint by drinking the tea or licking on a peppermint tablet or inhaling peppermint vapor. But, drinking the tea before bedtime works effectively.

To use this:
Put peppermint leaves in a pan and add 1 cup of water to it. Boil for 20 minutes before removing the peppermint leaves inside. Add lemon to the peppermint tea for better taste. Take the tea twice daily. Taking it daily will relieve some of the symptoms.

5. Marshmallow root

Marshmallow root is an herb that is used to treat coughs and sore throats. The herb contains antibacterial properties, which helps treat the infection in the throat and can also ease irritation from coughing due to its high mucilage substances.

How to use this:
Get marshmallow roots, either the powdered one or dried one. Put in a cup and add hot water to it. Allow it to settle for like 5 minutes and drink immediately. The longer it stays in the water, the more effective it will be. Take it twice daily.

The side effect of this may result in stomach upset. Also, homemade remedies for dry cough are not one-size-fits-all. You may want to practice with different remedies before you can find the one that is suitable for you.

In addition, not all of these homemade remedies have been fully researched to be effective. Some treatments are not good for babies or children. So, avoid giving these to babies.
